Suggestions for the bas-relief
Perhaps incorporating a scale map of the camp with the town nearby would help give an impression of how close the camp was to the town and also, just how extensive the camp was in area.
Another cartographic idea might be a wiggly line representing the route troops would march over the ranges to Trentham with the miles (not kilometres) marked in with significant milestone stops such as the summit stop (where the WPA would serve tea) and Kaitoke (where they would spend the night).
